final projects of LASA’s Engineering Design class, May 2015

Juan, Vicente, and Elissa show off their cool quadcopter!

Kevin, Fabian, Ray, and Luis worked on making an automatic soap dispenser. Here, they show some CADD drawings.

They 3D printed parts of their device!

Abby built a 3D printer from a kit of parts. On behalf of all my future classes who get to use it, thanks Abby!

A close-up of the 3D printer

Alex, Basab, and Blake worked on a Rube Goldberg machine, which they used to compete in Science Olympiad. They got 5th place in the *nation*!!

Sofia built an archery bow It's not quite assembled yet, since she's waiting on smaller skiis to attach.

Ders made a cool music synthesizer. It's not "finished" in its box yet, but it plays!

Sammy worked on a water bottle that uses LEDs and an Arduino to track water usage throughout the day.

Although they're in different classes, Severin worked with Sammy on the truly inventive water bottle.

Poet made a camera mount for a zip line. Now he can film smooth shots over long distances.

Milan shoes his group's project: an automatic Frisbee launcher. Yes, that's a bicycle tire they're using. :)

Sergio and Ben built a music synthesizer using an Arduino and an SD card reader to store samples.

Zia and Jack built a small, hand-made clock using an Arduino Lillypad! The LED display is super cute.

Jake honed his woodworking and shop skills by making a stool by hand. The seat even rotates!

Etienne created a crucible for melting aluminum. He poured his own concrete and welded all the parts himself!

Pablo, Jose, and Santiago built a SWEET rubber band Gatling gun! They cut and carved every piece by hand.

Miles, Audrey, Robin, Armando, and Winston built a fully functioning MAME cabinet! I'm so excited to have an arcade machine in my classroom!

Evan made a really cool music synthesizer with buttons that light up when you press them!

Zoe and Drace (and Henry, not pictured) put their problem solving and interior design skills to work, reorganizing my entire classroom and implementing new, efficient storage systems. I am SO grateful!

Matthew made a custom control system for a sweet LED clock and LED light system for his car. He's showing us the components before he installs them in his car.

Kinsey wrote a texted-based role playing adventure game using Python. Of course, it's Star Wars themed!

Pascal put his crafty and woodworking skills to work, making a beautiful tabletop display out of junk materials.

A better shot of Pascal's finished product.

Bridget and Katherine made a Thomas Edison-era phonograph! It records sounds on a wax tubel.

It's really great getting all the students together to share their projects with each other.

I'm gonna miss these guys!
